The Role of the Holy Spirit (Reader Question)

I received this question last week from a reader named Shae about the New Covenant Catechism for Little Ones.

Shae’s Question

I have a question about #70 on your list of New Covenant Catechisms for Little Ones. What are the verses to support it? That seems like a pretty big one but there is no scripture to support it. Thanks for your help and thanks for this list. It really is a great tool I plan on using in my homeschool next year.

My reply:

Hi Shae,

Thanks for reaching out, and I’m so glad you’re finding the catechism helpful! I took a look at question 70, and you’re right, there are no Scriptural references to back up the answer. This is a good reminder to me, that I need to go back and publish another revision of the Catechism; there are a few other questions whose supporting verses either don’t line up or don’t necessarily provide the best support. So, thank you for your question, as it’s going to make the Catechism better.
Here is Q70 and are some supporting verses for the answer.
70. What does the Holy Spirit do in the New Covenant?
He changes sinners’ hearts…
  • Titus 3:5
  • John 3:5
  • Galatians 5:16-18
Gives us faith in Christ…
  • John 16:13-15
  • Romans 8:2
  • Galatians 5:5
  • Ephesians 2:8-9
And helps us live a Christian life.
  • 1 Corinthians 12:4-11
  • Romans 8:13
This article on GotQuestions was helpful in my search, as well as this search on OpenBible.info.
God willing, I’ll be able to get that revised edition out soon, with the corrected verses. Thanks again for your question, and God bless you as you strive to faithfully educate your kids in the grace and truth of the Lord.
In Christ,
Joel Settecase
